"Iran will halt implementation of nuclear deal if past issues not resolved"

1. Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi says Tehran will halt implementation of the nuclear deal with the P5+1 group of countries unless the International Atomic Energy Agency fully closes its investigation regarding Tehran’s past nuclear issues. The IAEA is expected to give its final assessment on the case on December 15.

2. Syrian government forces gain more ground in their fight against terrorist groups. The fresh advances are made in Damascus countryside against the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front and Daesh. Military officials say several militants were killed and many others injured in the operation which took place in the eastern Ghouta area.

3. Brazil’s police have arrested a senior ruling-party senator in an investigation into a corruption network related to state oil giant Petrobras. Senator Delcidio Amaral is the first sitting legislator to be put behind bars in the widening corruption scandal. Amaral leads President Dilma Rousseff’s Workers’ Party in the upper house.

4. Police in the Peruvian capital have clashed with workers demanding more salaries. Riot police used tear gas, water cannon, and batons to disperse the protesters in Lima. The Peruvian healthcare staff have been staging protests since last year, calling for better working conditions.

5. US police in Chicago have clashed with protesters voicing their anger over the shooting death of a black teenager by a white police officer in 2014. The protesters demanded justice for the slain Laquan McDonald. President Barack Obama says he was deeply disturbed by the video of the incident.

6. US President Barack Obama has signed a defense bill which hinders his efforts to close the notorious Guantanamo Bay prison. The bill upholds a ban on transferring prisoners from Guantanamo to the United States. The closure of the notorious prison was one of Obama’s 2008 election pledges.

7. French lawmakers have approved to extend airstrikes against Daesh terrorists in Syria. Some members of the parliament argued that Paris should seek new military coordination with regional powers to defeat ISIL terrorists. The move comes following a series of deadly attacks in Paris which left at least 130 people dead.

8. The surviving pilot of the Russian jet that was shot down by Turkey says the Turkish Air Force did not issue any warning. He says the jet was hit by a missile while flying in Syrian airspace. The Turkish military, however, has released an audio recording of the alleged warnings.
