Russia after reconsidering reltions with Turkey after jet downing

1. The surviving pilot of the Russian fighter jet that was shot down by Turkey says the Turkish Air Force did not issue any warning. He says the jet was hit by a missile while flying in Syrian airspace. The pilot stressed that Turkish airspace was not violated for even a second.

2. Tension between Moscow and Ankara is simmering over the shooting down of a Russian military jet by Turkey in Syrian airspace. The Russian foreign minister says Moscow will not wage a war against Turkey but will seriously reconsider its relations. Sergey Lavrov says the downing of the jet was pre-planned.

3. Meanwhile, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has urged Turkey and Russia to exercise restraint in regard to the downing of the Russian jet by the Turkish military. Rouhani urged the two countries to take precautionary measures and show patience in order to prevent such incidents from happening again.

4. Israeli forces have shot a Palestinian man they accuse of stabbing and injuring an Israeli near the city of al-Khalil or Hebron. The Palestinian identified as Muhammad Ismail Shubaki succumbed to his wounds after Israelis refused to take him to the hospital. Nearly one hundred Palestinians have been killed since October 1.

5. The Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution says the Intifada of the Palestinian people has already begun in the occupied territories. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says Iran will defend the Palestinians in any possible way. The leader warned that the enemy seeks to destroy the Palestinian cause.

6. An airstrike reportedly carried out by French warplanes has hit an elementary school in Iraq leaving over two dozen students dead. A number of students were also wounded in the raid that took place in al-Zohour district. The incident happened as France announced launching anti-ISIL operations in Iraq.

7. The United Nations says the humanitarian situation has worsened in Yemen’s southern city of Ta’izz. Under-Secretary for Humanitarian Affairs, Stephen O’Brian, says 200,000 civilians in Ta’izz are in dire need of food, drinking water, medical and other basic supplies. O’Brian says the civilians live under a virtual siege.

8. Pope Francis has arrived in Kenya at the start of his six-day African tour. The pontiff is the third head of Roman Catholic Church to visit the continent. He will address the congregation and seek unity between Christians and Muslims. He will also travel to Uganda and the Central African Republic.
