Iranian, Russian FMs hold phone talk after Turkey downs Russian jet
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has held a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart after Turkey downed a Russian warplane near the country’s border with Syria.
Zarif expressed concerns over the downing of the jet and said such incidents result in the escalation of tensions in Syria and send a wrong message to terrorist groups. He also said what happened to the Russian warplane shows the importance of Syria’s fate in fighting terrorism and maintaining peace in the world. The top Iranian diplomat further stressed that tackling terrorism is only possible with regional and international unification.
