Six dead after explosion hits house in Myanmar

Myanmar police tighten security around the explosion site.

Six people were killed and seven others injured when a powerful blast hit a house in Myanmar's mountainous town of Hakha, police say.

The explosion occurred late Sunday in Hakha, the capital of the western state of Chin, which borders both Bangladesh and India.

"Six people died and seven are in the Hakha hospital," AFP quoted a police officer as saying on Monday. "The explosion was strong enough to destroy the house completely as well as damage other buildings nearby."

The cause of the explosion remains unknown. The officer, however, said gunpowder or some sort of explosive was suspected.

Police tightened security around the area and investigations are underway to find the cause of the blast.
