'Trump, a deluded clown who believes the lie of his success'

"This guy is nothing more than a deluded clown who believes the lie of his own success, and so do his supporters."

US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is nothing but a “deluded clown” who believes the lie of his own success, an American writer and political analyst says.

Daniel Patrick Welch made the remarks in a phone interview with Press TV on Sunday, after Trump said he would monitor mosques in the US, bring back waterboarding torture technique and keep refugees on a watch list.

"Well, Donald Trump is the gift that keeps on giving, isn't he? This guy is nothing more than a deluded clown who believes the lie of his own success, and so do his supporters. They are so stupid and uninformed that they think that billionaires are self-made,” Welch said.

“It’s basically the lie that all rich people convince themselves that they have any intelligence or skill when their only real skill, if you can call it that, is to continually prop up a rigged system, a corrupt system that gives them an infinite increase of their stake if they don’t die. And that’s what happened to Trump,” he added.

“If he had never touched his parents’ inheritance, he’d be much richer than he is now. That’s how stupid he is and his several bankruptcies speak to his lack of prowess, but people believe in it anyway,” he pointed out.

On Sunday, Trump called for the return of waterboarding, a near-drowning torture technique mostly used by the CIA at its “black sites” overseas.

It was the latest in a string of inflammatory comments Trump has made recently regarding the threat of terrorism in the wake of the Paris attacks last week.

On Saturday, the New York billionaire said, "I want surveillance of certain mosques if that's OK.  We've had it before."

On Thursday, Trump said he would be open to having a “Muslim database” in America for security reasons, two days after he said that the US would have "absolutely no choice" but to close down some mosques.

Hours later, the Republican frontrunner doubled down on his previous remarks when asked by NBC News if he would create a national database to register all Muslims living in the US to protect the country against terrorism. “I would certainly implement that, absolutely.”

Mr. Welch said Trump is “racist, and he is spouting these absolute fascistic, Hitlerlite things about, you know labeling Muslims, surveilling mosques and bringing back waterboarding.”

“It’s a clown act. But the trouble is that it’s a kind of smokescreen for what’s really going on. You know all of the other politicians support US imperial designs,” he said.

“Trump will not get elected, but Hillary Clinton or one of the others ones definitely will. And they don’t support any change in US foreign policy. They are all imperialists. They all think it is perfectly fine for US to weaken and destabilize any potential allies of Russia and China that might put a nick in their armor, and again unrig that system that has played so well in their favor for the last few hundred years,” the analyst stated.

“But Trump? Yes, Trump is a clown. But he is not the craziest one in the deck, and he is certainly not the biggest threat to world stability. That would be the people who are going to take the mantle of power and continue to wreak havoc on the world as this Democratic administration has been doing for the last eight years. The party doesn’t seem to have anything to do with it,” he noted.

“Let him spout and sputter. He provides us a lot of entertainment or infotainment for the masses, but he is basically an idiot. Of course I could be wrong but I don’t see him going very far,” Mr. Welch concluded.
