US spends most of its budget on military and bailing out rich: Writer

“In the US alone, human trafficking generates nearly $10 billion [yearly] and the average age a child is prostituted is 13,” Mickey Z. told Press TV on Friday.

The United States spends most of its budget on its military and bailing out the rich, but ignores the poor, American writer and political activist Mickey Z. says.

The author of Occupy This Book and Occupy These Photos made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Friday while commenting on a US government report which says about half a million people, including more than 140,000 children, are homeless in the United States due to few affordable housing and a sluggish economic recovery.

The study released on Thursday by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development found that more that 565,000 people, about one-fourth of them children, were living on the streets, in cars, in homeless shelters or in subsidized transitional housing.

“Billions of dollars are spent to bail out the rich in this country while roughly half of our federal tax money is used to fund a global reign of terror known as the US Department of so-called Defense,” Mickey Z. said.

“But thanks to relentless corporate propaganda, we’re programmed to ignore the vast and corrupt enterprise of corporate welfare and instead we falsely believe that the poor in America are lazy leeches, coddled by an enabling nanny state,” he added.

“But contrary to such dishonest media imagery, 55 percent of children living in poor or low-income families have a parent who works full time, year around,” the analyst noted.

“In addition, this combination of poverty, stigmatization, and overworked/underpaid parents can leave children vulnerable to the global scourge of so-called sex trafficking,” he observed.

“In the US alone, human trafficking generates nearly $10 billion [yearly] and the average age a child is prostituted is 13,” he stated.

“And globally, about 2 million children are exploited every year in what’s commonly called the ‘commercial sex trade,’ but should be more accurately designated as for-profit rape,” the activist observed.

“This part of what passes for reality in the Home of the Brave,” concluded Mickey Z.
