Iran wushu fighters earn two silver medals in world contests

Iranian male and female practitioners have produced commendable displays of strength and skills at the 13th edition of World Wushu Championships in Indonesia, and were awarded two silver medals at the high-status tournament.

On Tuesday, the Iranian squad, comprised of Mohsen Ahmadi, Ebrahim Fathi and Navid Makvandi, won 9.54 points at the men’s duilian Taolu team competitions in the Indonesian capital city of Jakarta, and received the silver medal.

It stood behind China with a total score of 9.73 points, and was followed by the Ukranian squad, which bagged 9.53 points.

Duilian is a dual event in wushu, where there is some form of sparring with weapons, or without weapons or even using bare hands against weapons. Duilian is usually spectacular, and actions are choreographed beforehand.

Earlier in the day, Iran’s female wushu fighter Zahra Kiani competed in the women’s Changquan contests, and gained 9.52 points to sit in the second slot and pick up the silver medal.

Sandra Konstantinova from Russia scored 9.53 points to snatch the gold medal. The bronze went to American contestant Amy Li, who accumulated 9.48 points.

The 13th edition of World Wushu Championships opened in Jakarta, Indonesia, on November 11th, and will conclude on 18th.

The international tournament has brought together some 1,000 male and female wushu practitioners from 82 countries, including Australia, Brazil, China, Chinese Taipei, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Turkey, the United States and Vietnam.
