Iran to crush any Daesh threat before it reaches border: Commander

Commander of the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan

The commander of the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces says any threat poised by the Daesh Takfiris will be crushed before it can even reach Iran’s borders.

Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan made the comments while attending Iran’s Mohammad Rasoul Allah military maneuvers in the country’s eastern city of Torbat-e Jam in Khorasan Razavi province on Monday.

“We are fully prepared to crush these threats before they even near the country’s borders," Pourdastan said, adding that if Daesh crosses Iran's 40-kilometer red line, it will be destroyed outside of the country's borders.

In January, Pourdastan announced that Iran has marked a 40-km red zone into the Iraqi border to warn terrorists of any encroachment attempt towards the Iranian territory.

The Daesh threat against the Islamic Republic is not "new and serious," but nonetheless “we have bolstered our border forces and announced that we are ready to deter any kind of threat,” he noted.

The northern and western parts of Iraq have been plagued by the Daesh terrorists, who began their spread of terror through some parts of the Iraqi territory in June 2014.
