New 9/11 coming from Syria: US Senator Graham

The Obama administration needs to increase its military efforts against Daesh (ISIL) terrorists in Syria in order to prevent a terrorist onslaught similar to the September 11, 2001 attacks, according to Republican Senator Lindsey Graham.

“You’re only going to win this war if you go on offense,” Graham told CNN on Sunday.

“There’s a 9/11 coming and it’s coming from Syria if we don’t disrupt their [ISIL’s] operations coming from Syria,” he added.

Speaking about Friday night’s deadly Paris attacks, the Republican presidential hopeful warned that such coordinated operations are only a preview of what is awaiting the US, unless Washington leads the international military efforts against the terror organization.

He expressed hope for the French administration to invoke Article 5 of the North Atlantic North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), which describes an attack on one of the members as an attack against all.

If invoked, the article would pave the way for an all-out NATO involvement in the fight.

“I hope the French will invoke Article 5,” Graham said “They should, the world should be at war with ISIL.”

This is while US Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes said on Sunday that it is up to Paris to make the call.

“The French will make a decision about whether to invoke Article 5,” Rhodes said. “We stand ready to do whatever is necessary.”

A series of coordinated armed attacks and explosions hit Paris late on Friday, killing at least 129 people and injuring some 350 others.

Daesh, which has parts of Iraq and Syria under control and is terrorizing the civilian population there, has claimed responsibility for the terror strikes.

Hours before the attacks, President Obama had claimed that Washington has “contained” the Takfiri group.
