Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Ja’afari says Baghdad has shared intelligence on the risk of militant attacks on France, the United States and Iran.

"Sources in Iraqi intelligence obtained information that some countries would be targeted, especially France, America and Iran, and they were informed of this," al-Ja’afari said in a statement on Sunday.

The remarks came two days after assailants struck six different venues in and around the French capital, Paris, and killed some 130 people and injured 350 others.

The Daesh terrorist group claimed responsibility for the Paris attacks, saying the attacks were a response to the involvement of Paris in the airstrikes on Daesh targets in Syria and Iraq.

Al-Ja’afari noted that the deadly attacks on France as well as the most recent ones on Lebanon and Egypt indicated that there should be a global response to the threat posed by the Takfiri Daesh group.

Iraqi Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Jamal also said the intelligence showed that a number of countries, particularly European, were at risk of an attack by Daesh, adding that the intelligence was received months ago.

French President Francois Hollande has described the Daesh attacks on a concert hall, bars, restaurants and football stadium as “an act of war,” pledging to be “merciless” in airstrikes on Daesh targets as part of the US-led coalition.

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said on Saturday that France was “hit by an act of war, organized methodically” by a Takfiri group.

This comes while, a number of western countries and their regional allies have been accused of supporting militant groups, including Daesh, who are fighting to overthrow the government of President Bashar al-Assad in Syria.
