Senior Palestinian officials have condemned the recent terrorist attacks in and around the French capital of Paris.
On Saturday, Bassem Naim, head of the Council of International Relations for the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, said the attacks amounted to “acts of aggression and barbarity.”
The deadly assaults in Paris were carried out late on Friday, when assailants struck at least six different venues in and around the French capital. The Takfiri Daesh terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attacks, which killed nearly 130 people.
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement also denounced the string of coordinated terrorist attacks in Paris as “a crime against innocents.”
Also on Saturday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas condemned “the horrific events” in Paris and expressed sympathy and solidarity with the French people and government.
“We condemn it in the strongest terms and we hope that this region can get rid of terror and the terrorists,” said Abbas, calling on all nations to “collaborate in the fight against terror.”
“Terror has no religion nor a nation or a loyalty to one, whatever this terror maybe it is condemned by us and we stand against it all the way.”
Chief Palestinian Negotiator Saeb Erekat also denounced the assaults as “criminal and murderous,” adding that these acts have nothing to do with Islam.
Erekat, who is also a member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO)'s Executive Committee, said Palestinians support the French people and government in the fight against terrorism.
“We tell you we are with you and we stand with you and in this fight, in this just fight, against terrorism. Justice, freedom, liberty is the cause and values of France and it is justice, freedom and liberty that the Palestinians are seeking to achieve,” Erekat stated.
The coordinated assaults came as France, a founding member of the US-led coalition conducting airstrikes against purported positions of Daesh in Syria and Iraq, was already on high alert for terrorist attacks ahead of a global climate conference due to open later this month.
