White House Secret Service officer arrested in child sex sting

A White House Secret Service officer has been arrested for allegedly sending obscene photographs to someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl from Delaware, according to a criminal complaint.

Lee Robert Moore was caught in a sting operation by Delaware State Police after he allegedly sent nude pictures of himself along with several messages to an officer posing as a young girl, reads the complaint unsealed Thursday.

Some of the messages between Moore, 37, and the undercover officer were reportedly sent from the White House grounds. Moore has reportedly requested meetings and sexual encounters with the officer.

He turned himself in to the Maryland State Police Barracks on Monday, when the complaint was also lodged against him in the US District Court for Delaware.

"The Secret Service takes allegations of potential criminal activity extremely seriously," a Secret Service spokeswoman said in a statement Thursday afternoon.

"This incident was reported to our Office of Professional Responsibility on Friday, November 6th. On that same date, the employee's security clearance was suspended and the employee was placed on administrative leave. All Secret Service issued equipment was retrieved and the employee's access to all Secret Service facilities was terminated," the spokeswoman added.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Friday that “the allegations … are disgusting,” noting the accusations are the ones that “the administration and the Secret Service take quite seriously.”

The incident is the latest black eye for the Secret Service, which has already faced public embarrassments over several breaches of professional duty and sexual scandals by its staff.
