Iranian men's national goalball team has recorded a commendable victory at the 2015 International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Goalball Asia/Pacific Goalball Championships in China, overcoming the South Korean squad to clinch a spot in the final of the tournament.

In a match held at China National Goalball Training Center in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou on Wednesday afternoon, the Iranian visually-challenged athletes edged the East Asian side 4-3 in a highly competitive and thrilling semi-final showdown.

Earlier in the day, the Islamic Republic of Iran drew 10-10 with China in a preliminary round fixture to secure a place in the semi-finals.

In another semi-final match of Wednesday, Japan’s national goalball team will play against the host nation.

The Iranian team will be searching for a berth in the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games during Thursday’s final match.

The 2015 IBSA Goalball Asia/Pacific Goalball Championships started in Hangzhou, China, on November 8, and will conclude on November 12.

Goalball is a team sport designed specifically for male and female athletes with a visual impairment. Participants compete in teams of three, and try to throw a ball that has bells embedded in it into the opponents' goal.

Teams alternate throwing or rolling the ball from one end of the playing area to the other, and players remain in the area of their own goal in both defense and attack. Players must use the sound of the bell to judge the position and movement of the ball. Games consist of two 12-minute halves.
