Turkey allies close to forming safe zone over Syria: Erdoğan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan says his country’s allies are getting closer to the idea of creating a safe zone over Syria.

Speaking in a live program broadcast by CNN Turk on Tusday, Erdoğan added that he saw positive developments on establishing a no-fly zone and conducting aerial operations against the positions of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group, Reuters reported.

The Turkish president further said that Ankara would not tolerate Kurdish militants advancing to the western areas of the Euphrates, since it fears the move would lead to the creation of a Kurdish corridor close to the southern Turkish border.

The pledge to confront the Daesh Takfiris comes despite Turkey’s longtime support for the militancy against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government, with reports showing that Ankara actively trains and arms the Takfiri extremists operating in Syria in addition to facilitating the safe passage of foreign terrorists into the Arab country.
