Press TV has conducted an interview with E. Michael Jones, an editor at Culture Wars Online Magazine in Indiana, to discuss the recent advances by the Syrian army against Daesh terrorists in the northern province of Aleppo.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: Strictly from a military point of view, the Syrian army for the most part is making lots of advances, there is some given take. Do you think that if this was to continue with the Russian air support that they come very close to eradicating the majority of these terrorists on their soil?

Jones: Yes, I think there is no question. What we have witnessed over the past months is a turning point in the war. Once Russia got involved and fired these cruise missiles, the United States realized that was on the losing end of a technological change in warfare. They pulled their aircraft carrier out of the Persian Gulf; there is no American presence in the Persian Gulf as a result of that. And as a result of that they took the initiative in Syria.

The other issue here is proxy warfare. What we are seeing here is the end of the whole tradition of proxy warfare because when push comes to shove, these troops are not dependable. And if you have a discipline military force that is not engaged a kind of duplicitous playing one faction off against the other, it will triumph over these proxy wars.

So what we are going to see here is Aleppo will be captured by the Syrian army that will cut off the supply route and then they will have no place to go. There will be no way to supply ISIS and that will be the beginning at the end.

Press TV: Well given that, why should there be an eager interest from for example Russia, even Iran and of course the Syrian government to have political talks continue like in Vienna when they are making advances on the ground?

Jones: Well this is the way political negotiations go. You strengthen your hand in negotiations, so more territory you occupy. So this is just part of the way it works. They have a strengthened hand now, now they will be able to be real players in the negotiations and that will bring about the end of the war. I mean in some instance of the opposite, look at what happened in World War II when the United Sates demanded unconditional surrender. You do not want to be in a situation like that.
