Young Britons rally against cuts to free education

Protesters march against student fees during an annual demonstration in central London on November 4, 2015.

Thousands of Britons and young students take to the streets of London to protest against cuts to free education.

The rally is organized by the National Campaign Against Fees and Cuts.

The demonstrators march with placards and banners against student fees.

In this annual rally, the students are calling for free university education for all.

Press TV's correspondent says scuffles have broken out between the protesters and police. Meanwhile, police kettled the protesters.

Police confirmed that “a number” of arrests had been made, without saying how many.

According police sources, the arrests were made after protesters attempted to gain entry to the Department for Business Innovation and Skills.

Fees for university students in England were introduced in 1998.

The maximum allowable charge was trebled by the previous coalition government led by Prime Minister David Cameron to up to 9,000 (12,000 euros, 13,000 USD) GBP per year.

The leader of the opposition Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn has backed the demonstration.

Corbyn had earlier said that plans for education cuts would lead to QUOTE scapegoating and deportation of international students.
