Yemenis step up retaliatory attacks on Saudi positions
Fighters with Yemen’s ruling Ansarullah movement, backed by allied army units, have ramped up attacks on military positions in southern Saudi Arabia in retaliation for Riyadh’s incessant airstrikes across the impoverished country.
Yemen’s al-Masirah TV said Monday that the allied forces managed to destroy another Saudi tank in the Sallah military base in Najran Province.
The successful attack came hours after Yemeni forces targeted an Abraham tank in Math’an base in Jizan Province.
The report by Masirah said that Yemenis also launched several rounds of rocket attacks on two other military bases in Najran, forcing the troops inside the camps to flee. The Yemenis also inflicted damage on several military vehicles.
The Yemeni army’s artillery unit also carried out an attack on a military position in Sheibani mountains in the Aseer region.
The retaliatory attacks came in response to Saudi Arabia’s continued targeting of areas across Yemen. Earlier on Monday, Saudi fighter jets pounded three positions in two districts in Yemen’s Bayda Province.
Saudi planes also carried out more than 200 attacks south of the kingdom on the positions of Yemeni forces who had advanced across the border.
Yemen has been witnessing airstrikes by Saudi Arabia since March 26, in line with Riyadh's goal of undermining the Houthi movement and bringing Yemen's fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuah Mansour Hadi, back to power. The Saudi aggression has claimed the lives of more than 7,100 people so far, while a total of nearly 14,000 people have also been injured.
