US pledges $100 million to support "moderate opposition" in Syria

The United States has pledged nearly 100-million dollars in financial support to what it calls Syria’s moderate opposition.

US Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken made the announcement at the Manama Dialog Conference in Bahrain. This will bring to nearly 500-million dollars the amount Washington has pledged to anti-Damascus militants since 2012. The latest financial support came a day after Washington said it will deploy up to 50 troops to Syria to advise and train militants. The Saudi foreign minister, speaking at the conference, has also reiterated his country’s support for the so-called Syrian opposition. Adel al-Jubeir said the kingdom’s policy toward Syria has not changed.
