Republican presidential hopeful and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush says his brother, former US President George W. Bush, responded in an “awe-inspiring” way to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Jeb made the remarks on Monday night during a staged conversation with his brother at a Bush family donor retreat in Houston, Texas.
“How he responded to 9/11," Jeb said of George W. Bush, "was just awe-inspiring. People were united. And people really got it that he had a heart for them.”
“At that time, as you know, kids were crying. All around people, children and grandchildren didn’t know what was going on. The whole world was turned upside down, and you had a president who was staid and sure and strong,” he added.
Last week, frontrunner Republican White House contender Donald Trump blamed George W. Bush for the September 11, 2001 attacks, because, he said, the attacks happened under his watch.
Trump went on to say that if he had been president in 2001, his immigration policy would have kept al-Qaeda terrorists from attacking the US.
The latest remark by Jeb, who is failing to gain traction against Trump, also suggests that he is willing to embrace the political record of the Bush family.
“The case study of leadership is how George responded to 9/11, period, over and out,” Jeb told the audience.
“And the idea that a candidate could think that they could make political hay to create a new… narrative on the reality on how he led is a joke,” he added.
The September, 11, 2001 attacks, also known as the 9/11 attacks, were a series of strikes in the US which killed nearly 3,000 people and caused about $10 billion worth of property and infrastructure damage.
US officials assert that the attacks were carried out by 19 al-Qaeda terrorists but many experts have raised questions about the official account.
They believe that rogue elements within the US government, such as former Vice President Dick Cheney, orchestrated or at least encouraged the 9/11 attacks in order to accelerate the US war machine and advance the Zionist agenda.
In an interview with Press TV on October 20, Dr. Kevin Barrett, a founding member of the Scientific Panel for the Investigation of 9/11, said the real truth about the September 11 attacks would not only destabilize the US political system but it would also take down America as a global empire.
“That’s one reason everybody in the US is afraid to open up this can of worms,” Dr. Barrett said.
