Death toll from South Asia earthquake keeps rising

More people die as a result of a powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake which rocked much of South Asia.

At least 33 Afghans including twelve school girls died in the wake of the huge quake which centered in Afghanistan's Hindu Kush region. The students died in a stampede while trying to get out of the school. Widespread power outages and telephone cuts have been reported in the Afghan capital, Kabul. In neighboring Pakistan, at least 147 people have so far been confirmed dead. The death toll in both countries is expected to rise as scores of injuries have been reported. There is no immediate report of casualties in India which was also jolted by the quake.
