The Yemen army, backed by Popular Committees loyal to the Houthi Ansarullah movement, has destroyed a Saudi warship in the waters close to the southwestern province of Ta’izz.

According to local media reports on Sunday, the Yemeni forces targeted the vessel, which had regularly been shelling Yemeni coastal villages, with rockets.

Reports said that the warship was set ablaze due to the Yemeni rocket attacks and sank.

After the incident, Saudi warplanes and naval vessels several times bombarded the coastal area in the district of Mukha in the province.

Saudi warplanes also bombarded other provinces in the impoverished Arab country. In one of the airstrikes on the Yemeni province of Sana’a, at least four civilians, including three children, were killed. The Saudi fighter jets also bombarded a foodstuff factory in the province.

The Yemeni province of Sa’ada was also the target of Saudi airstrikes. At least a woman and a child were killed after Saudi warplanes targeted a residential area in the district of Majdh. The Saudi jets also bombed a bridge in the same district, killing at least five people.

The Saudi warplanes also bombarded the districts of Razeh, Katas and Sahar in Sa’ada. It was said that Saudi fighters used cluster bombs in Sahar.

The headquarters of one of the brigades of the Yemeni army in the province of Hajjah was also hit by Saudi warplanes.

Earlier in the day, the Yemeni army destroyed a Saudi drone in Ta’izz. The unmanned aerial vehicle was shot down in the area of Siman, in Sabir al-Mawadim District.

The photo shows the wreckage of a Saudi surveillance drone that was shot down by the Yemeni forces in the southeastern province of Dhamar, July 6, 2015.

Similarly, on October 22, the Yemeni forces targeted a Saudi drone in the Jabal Asvad area of the provincial capital, Ta’izz.

On October 10, a Saudi warship was targeted and destroyed in the southwestern coast of Yemen, in the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden.

On October 7, the Yemeni forces managed to destroy another Saudi vessel in the area, with reports saying that the sunken ship had repeatedly fired rockets on residential areas in Ta’izz.

The Saudi military has been engaged in military strikes against Yemen since late March. The strikes are allegedly aimed at undermining the Houthi movement and restoring power to fugitive former Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi.

About 7,000 people have lost their lives in the Saudi airstrikes, and a total of nearly 14,000 people have been injured since March 26.
