Hundreds of protesters have held a rally in the southern Pakistani port city of Karachi to show their anger at Israel’s aggressive policies toward the Palestinians.

People in Karachi marked the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, the third Shia imam, in the city center, on Saturday.

However, the event soon turned into a protest against the occupational policies of the Tel Aviv regime. Demonstrators burned the flags of Israel and the United States.

The angry demonstrators chanted slogans and carried placards demanding an end to the ongoing Israeli crimes against the Palestinians, and also called on the international community to boycott Israeli products.

A large number of paramilitary troops were deployed around the gathering as there were rumors that militant groups may target the rally.

Tensions in the occupied territories gained momentum after the Tel Aviv regime imposed in August restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque in East al-Quds (Jerusalem). The Palestinians are also angry at aggressive Israeli settlers, who frequently storm al-Aqsa Mosque.

The Palestinian Health Ministry says nearly 60 Palestinians have been killed and hundreds more have been injured in the Israeli attacks since early October.

The protesters in Karachi criticized the United States for sponsoring militants across Pakistan in order to destabilize the country.

The news comes as two dozen Shia Muslims were killed in a bomb attack at a religious gathering in southern Pakistan. Dozens of people were also wounded in the blast in the city of Jacobabad on October 23.

Also on Thursday a bomb attack killed at least ten Shia Muslims at a mosque in the southern province of Balochistan.

International organizations and regional countries have also expressed concern over the killing of Shia Muslims across Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Shia leaders have called on the Islamabad government to bring to justice those behind the ongoing bloodshed and targeted killings in the country.
