1. Millions of people around the world are marking the martyrdom anniversary of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad, Imam Hussein and his brother Abol Fazl al-Abbas. Imam Hussain’s resting place in the Iraqi city of Karbala has been a converging point for the mourners. Iranians have also been marking the occasion across the country.

2. Palestinian factions have called for mass rallies against Israel across Palestinian territories in a “Day of Rage” on Friday. The call comes amid mounting Israeli aggression against the Palestinians. Israelis have killed 54 Palestinians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip over the past three weeks.

3. More deaths and destruction reported as Saudi Arabia presses ahead with its aggression against Yemen. Over a dozen people, including women and children, have been killed in the latest Saudi airstrikes on Yemen’s Sa’ada province. More than 7,000 Yemenis have been killed since late March this year.

4. Thousands of South African students have protested against government plans to raise tuition fees next year. Police used stun grenades and water cannon against protesters near President Jacob Zuma’s office. The protests began last week and have since spread to 10 universities, forcing the closure of many of them.

5. Nearly 30 people have been killed in a twin bomb blast in the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri. Witnesses say the blasts ripped through a mosque during the morning prayers. The attack is the latest in a string of assaults blamed on Boko Haram takfiri terrorists.

6. The Anti-Coup Alliance in Egypt says the low turnout in the country's parliamentary elections is an indication of people’s frustration and opposition to the current military rule. The alliance which supports ousted president Mohammad Morsi has called on activists to launch civil disobedience across Egypt.

7. A head-on road collision has left more than 40 people dead in southwestern France. Police say a bus carrying senior citizens collided with a truck near the town of Libourne. The fire caused by the accident is blamed for the high death toll. Only five people have reportedly survived the accident.

8. Hungary’s prime minister has defended his hard-line stance against asylum seekers, rejecting the idea that Europe is facing a refugee crisis. Viktor Orban said those fleeing their homes are young men and look like an army. Almost 600,000 people, fleeing war and poverty, have arrived in Europe this year
