A London police officer has been charged with seven counts of rape alleged to have occurred between December 24, 2013 and September 2, 2014.

According to the Guardian, the 47-year-old man was arrested off duty at his home earlier this month.

Scotland Yard has already announced that PC Michael Graham will be suspended.

He is said to have been off duty when the alleged sexual assaults were committed.

Rampant rape

Back in 2013, it was revealed that nearly 170 British police officers and support staff were investigated for inappropriate sexual conduct.

According to a report obtained under Freedom of Information regulations, London is seen as the hub of police sexual misconduct.

47 Met police officers faced inquiries over sexual misconduct two years ago.

Under-reporting rape cases

Meanwhile, the British police have already been accused of turning blind eye to reports on rape cases.

According to a 2014 study by HM Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC), The British police have ignored a third of rape reports in a 12-month period.

Nearly 10,000 rape cases were recorded in England and Wales in the 12 months to March 2013 from which only 18 percent led to a sanction detection.
