Resumption of US-Israel military talks 'outrageous': Author
US military aid to Israel is “disgusting” as it allows the Tel Aviv regime to kill more Palestinians with impunity, says and American author and attorney.
“This is outrageous, it is disgusting,” Michael Springmann told Press TV on Sunday, while asked about resumption of military talks between Israel and the United States.
“[US President Barack] Obama and [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu are allegedly on the outs, yet when it comes down to realistic actions, Israel is never punished for its murder of Palestinian citizens, it is never punished for its attacks on the United States, and it is never punished for its attacks on other countries.”
The chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Marine General Joseph Dunford, arrived in Israel on Saturday in a trip that signaled both sides were putting aside disagreements over the nuclear agreement with Iran.
Netanyahu put the military talks on hold before Iran and the P5+1 group of nations reached the deal in July against Israel's will.
Before Netanyahu suspended the military negotiations, Washington and Tel Aviv were about to agree on a new package of grants worth $3.6 billion to $3.7 billion a year, according to US and Israeli officials.
Springmann, an American attorney and author of Visas for al-Qaeda: CIA Handouts That Rocked The World, said the “monstrous” military aid “gives the Israelis more opportunity to kill civilians.”
The author added that military assistance is only one of Washington’s many contributions to the Tel Aviv regime.
“Besides the military aid, Israel gets $2 billion a year in loan guarantees, they get $1.5 billion in private US funds in the forms of private tax deductions and this is $1 billion and $500 million in Israeli bonds,” he said.
“Israeli aid is approximately one-third of the American foreign aid budget, even though Israel is 0.001 percent of the world’s population and has one of the world’s highest per capita incomes,” he added.
“It is monstrous to give them anything at all,” the author noted.
Israel spends most of the aid it receives from the US to buy American military hardware, such as jets and components for missile systems.
