  1. Palestinian envoy to the UN Riyadh Mansour has urged the international community not to give Israel impunity for crimes committed against his people in Palestinian territories. In an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, Mansour said that Israel must be held accountable for violating international law and human rights.
  2. US ambassador to Israel Daniel Shapiro has defended recent Israeli violence against Palestinians. Shapiro said Washington does not regard Tel Aviv’s actions against Palestinians as excessive. He noted that the US recognizes Israel’s right and responsibility to defend its citizens.
  3. Iran’s deputy foreign minister Abbas Araqchi rejects US allegations that the country’s recent ballistic missile test violated the UN Security Council’s resolutions. Araqchi pointed to the Security Council Resolution 22-31 under which the country has the right to boost its military prowess to defend its territorial integrity.
  4. The E-U is expected to announce the termination of anti-Iran economic and financial sanctions on Sunday. The decision will take effect only after the International Atomic Energy Agency certifies that Iran has complied with the terms of a nuclear agreement the country struck with the P5+1 group of countries back in July.
  5. Bahraini protesters take to the streets to vent their anger at the Al Khalifah regime’s crackdown and attacks on Muharram mourning processions across the kingdom. The call for protest was made by Bahrain’s main opposition party, al-Wefaq.
  6. In Saudi Arabia, people have staged a rally in the city of Saihat to condemn the deadly terrorist attacks on two Shia mosques in the country’s eastern region. The protesters chanted slogans against the Daesh terrorist group which claimed responsibility for the assaults that left five people dead.
  7. Greek parliamentarians have approved a new round of austerity measures demanded by the international creditors in return for a 2 billion-euro loan. Penalizing early retirement and expanding property tax are among cost-cutting measures approved by the lawmakers. The vote came amid a large protest outside the parliament building.
  8. US President Barack Obama has played down the effectiveness of Russia's anti-terror campaign in Syria saying it will not resolve the crisis there. Obama noted Washington has nothing to talk about with Moscow on Syria and their limited contacts have only been aimed at avoiding accidental mid-air military incidents.
