Press TV has interviewed Hussain al-Bukhaiti, an activist and political commentator in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, about Yemeni forces launching a Scud missile attack from Sana’a against Saudi Arabia in retaliation for Riyadh’s devastating war on their country.

What follows is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: How big of a game changer are these retaliatory [attacks] especially when it is a Scud missile on this scale? How big of a game changer could this be into prompting Saudi Arabia to re-think its aggression against Yemen?

Bukhaiti: Actually this missile attack shows the Saudi failure in seven months to destroy Yemen rockets and missiles like Scud missiles because we know that the Saudis have declared after the first week of their attack on Yemen or of their war in Yemen, they have declared they have destroyed all Yemenis missiles and ballistic missiles and today’s missile shows that the Yemeni army is still well-equipped with these type of missiles and it will continue to target areas deep inside the Saudi [territory] if the Saudis continue their attack on Yemen and we know that all of the goals that the Saudis have set for their campaign and war on Yemen, they have failed.

They have for example said they want to bring Hadi and the Yemeni government back to Sana’a. They failed to bring them back to Aden even though Aden is under their control but they were kicked out by al-Qaeda or ISIS, as they call it, or Daesh and they have said they want to clear or to get all Houthi fighters back to Sa’ada and still they have failed. And the Scud missile was their third target when they declared they have destroyed all of these missiles but we have seen today’s attack and I am sure that there will be more of Scud missile attacks and there will be as well more of these attacks deep inside Saudi territory and yesterday Yemeni army has seized many army bases and army posts inside the Saudi [territory] after the Saudis continued their attack on Yemen.

Press TV: And there has been a significant amount of international silence as Saudi Arabia continues to kill civilians daily inside Yemen. What is it going to take to bring the Saudis to the table to diplomatically end this oppression against the Yemeni people?

Bukhaiti: I think the only thing that will bring the Saudis to accept peace and to respect Yemeni lives is those Scud missiles because we have seen after the GPC (the General People's Congress) Party and as well the Ansarullah in Muscat have brought to some concession and they have accepted the 2216 and they have accepted the Muscat seven-point plan to set and to start peace in Yemen.

The Saudis have refused through Hadi, which they used him to refuse any peace plan in Yemen so I think the Yemeni army and Ansarullah fighters and the Popular Committee will set a new state of their campaign against the Saudis and I am sure that more scud missiles deep inside [Saudi Arabia], they will bring the Saudi regime to accept talk and to accept that Yemen is no longer under their influence or under their control and they will accept in the future that the south of Saudi, it will be in a change of south of Yemen. That is what the Yemeni army and Ansarullah and the Popular Committee is doing now, is to control more areas inside Saudi and we know if you control more it means that you can reach more areas in the north of Saudi or in Riyadh or Jeddah.
