Losing hegemony is what the US is coming to term with: Analyst
The US is trying to oppose and break the counter-US hegemony in the region by backing and funding terrorist groups, a political commentator says.
“All the US strikes are considered as an obvious response to the threat posed by any counter-US hegemony in the region,” Daniel Patrick Welch, told Press TV on Tuesday.
Welch called the strikes in Syria a “typical CIA move” and furthermore, the US is “not opposing terrorism” but “effecting a coup” against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
The United States and its so-called coalition partners conducted at least two airstrikes in Syria and 11 in Iraq on Monday, a day after Washington air-dropped tons of weapons to militants fighting inside Syria, US military officials said.
The airstrikes came nearly two weeks after Russia began its military campaign against terrorists fighting against the Syrian government. Russia has carried out scores of airstrikes against terrorists there, killing hundreds of them.
On Wednesday, Russia fired 26 long-range cruise missiles from its warships in the Caspian Sea against terrorists in Syria.
“US tries to save face by pulling their aircraft out of the Persian Gulf in response to Russian airstrikes from the Caspian Sea,” Welch added.
US Central Command spokesman Colonel Patrick Ryder said in a statement on Monday that "the aircraft delivery on Sunday included small arms ammunition to resupply counter-ISIL ground forces so that they can continue operations against ISIL."
The terrorists have been wreaking havoc in Syria and the neighboring Iraq, killing and displacing scores of citizens.
