Foreign-backed terrorists in Syria have fired two shells at the Russian Embassy in the capital Damascus.
The attacks came as about 300 pro-government supporters had gathered outside the compound to voice support for Moscow's airstrikes in Syria. No casualties have been reported yet. The Russian foreign minister has called the attacks an act of terrorism, aimed at intimidating supporters of the fight against the ISIL. Sergei Lavrov also noted that the Russian Embassy is now working with Syrian authorities to investigate the incident. Meanwhile, al-Qaeda-linked Nusra Front has called on militants in Russia’s Caucasus region to target Russian soldiers and civilians over the airstrikes in Syria. The head of Nusra Front, Abu Mohamed al-Jolani, has warned that Moscow’s attacks will have dire consequences for the Kremlin. Moscow says its attacks target the ISIL, Nusra Front and other terrorist groups that have caused chaos in Syria.
