At least one civilian has reportedly been killed and another injured in purported Ukrainian army fire in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region.
Pro-Russia sources in Donetsk made the announcement on Saturday, without specifying what kind of weapon had been used in the fatal incident.
“According to initial reports, the (casualties) are civilians,” the pro-Russia Donetsk News Agency said.
The Ukrainian army denied carrying out the attack, saying its forces would “under no circumstances” fire at civilians.
The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), whose observers are currently present in eastern Ukraine, did not immediately comment on the incident.
The violence comes despite ceasefire deals between the two sides, known as the Minsk agreements, previously reached between the Ukrainian warring sides in the Belarusian capital – one in September 2014 and the other in February this year.
Ukraine eastern provinces have witnessed deadly clashes between pro-Russia forces and the Ukrainian army since Kiev launched military operations in April last year to crush pro-Russia protests there.
The crisis has so far left some 8,000 people dead and 18,000 others injured, according to the United Nations (UN).
