Iran wheelchair basketball players trounce Malaysia 94-32

The Mitsubishi Electric 2015 IWBF Asia Oceania Championship started in Chiba, Japan, on October 10 and will wrap up on October 17.

Iran men's national wheelchair basketball team has earned its first victory at the preliminary round of the Mitsubishi Electric 2015 International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) Asia Oceania Championship in Japan after beating Malaysia.

On Saturday, the Iranian side sealed an emphatic 94-32 victory over Argentines in a match held at the at the Chiba Port Arena in the city of Chiba, located about 40 kilometers (24 miles) southeast of the capital, Tokyo.

The Iranian wheelchair basketball players will return to action on Sunday as it plays against Australia.

The Mitsubishi Electric 2015 IWBF Asia Oceania Championship started in Chiba, Japan, on October 10 and will wrap up on October 17.

There are twelve men’s teams competing for three spots, and three women’s teams competing for one spot at the Rio 2016 Summer Paralympics, Brazil.

Iran has been drawn in Group A along with Australia, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, the Philippines and Saudi Arabia.

Group B consists of Afghanistan, China, host Japan, South Korea, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates.

Physically-challenged female basketball players from Australia, China and Japan are competing in the women’s section.
