Iranian taekwondo fighters win CISM World Games title

Iranian male taekwondo fighters have displayed impressive performances in the sixth edition of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) World Games in South Korea, ranking first in the games.

On Saturday, Iran’s military taekwondo team landed in the first position of the chart after earning two gold, four silver and three bronze medals at the end of the men’s competitions at the KAFAC Indoor Sports Complex in the eastern South Korean city of Mungyeong.

Brazilians finished as the runners-up in the sports event, bagging one gold and one silver medal. China claimed one gold and one bronze medal to finish third.

Meanwhile, the Iranian female taekwondo practitioners won two gold medals plus four silver and three bronzes, clinching the second spot in the women’s section of the tournament.

China claimed the first position, snatching four golds, three silvers and two bronzes.

The Brazilian female taekwondo fighters were awarded two gold, one silver and three bronze medals, and stood in the third place.

The men’s and women’s taekwondo contests of the 6th edition of the CISM World Games opened on October 8 and wrapped up on October 10. A total of 229 male and female taekwondo fighters from 43 countries, including Azerbaijan, Brazil, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Iran, Russia and South Korea took part in the competitions.

Greco-Roman wrestling

Meanwhile, the Iranian men’s Greco-Roman wrestling team has ranked second in the 6th edition of the CISM World Games, winning five medals in the international event.

The Iranian athletes managed to snatch one gold and four silver medals to win 50 points and stand second in the team ranking.

Mohammad Ali Garaei won the country’s sole gold medal in the men’s 71-kilogram weight category.

Mohsen Hajipour, Omid Norouzi, Seyyed Mostafa Salehizadeh and Bashir Babajanzadeh also won bronze medals for Iran in the men’s 59-kilogram, 98-kilogram and 130-kilogram weight divisions.

The Iranian men’s Greco-Roman team came after the Ukrainian squad with 57, which claimed one gold, one silver and three bronzes.

South Korean Greco-Roman wrestlers won two gold, one silver and one bronze medals and ranked third in the competition with 44 points.

The sixth edition of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) World Games started in Mungyeong, South Korea on October 2, and will wrap up on October 11.

Russia leads the standings with 135 medals, including 59 golds, 43 silvers and 33 bronzes. Brazil is in the second slot with 84 medals – 34 golds, 26 silvers and 24 bronzes. The Chinese athletes rank third, having won 32 gold, 29 silver and 35 bronze medals.
