Press TV has conducted an interview with Scott Rickard, a former American intelligence linguist from Orlando, and Richard Weitz, a political expert with the Wikistrat from Washington, to talk about the warnings by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei against further negotiations between Iran and the United States.

Rickard thinks “Ayatollah Khamenei is quite right in not trusting the US government” as Washington has not abandoned its “aggressive approach” in dealing with the Islamic Republic.

He refers to the US support for the eight-year war imposed by the regime of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein on Iran in 1980s, among Washington’s other anti-Iran measures throughout the history, adding that the Leader is “very wisely” warning Iranian commanders to remain vigilant in the face of US threats.

The analyst rejects US claims that it is not after regime change in Iran, adding that Washington has pursued the same strategy in different countries of the region such as Syria and Libya.

The US keeps threatening Iran with war, while the Islamic Republic has never attacked any country and is defending its neighbors, says Rickard.

He argues that Russia’s anti-terror military campaign in Syria has helped expose the hypocrisy of the US, which has long supported militants in the Arab nation, adding that the Islamic Republic is “absolutely right” in being suspicious of US intentions.

Weitz, for his part, believes Iran and the United States could launch negotiations about regional issues such as the developments in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. He believes both sides distrust each other, but they could set aside their differences, although the normalization of their ties takes time.
