Syria’s armed conflict is Western project: Pundit

Washington’s strong opposition to Russia’s military campaign against terrorist networks in Syria shows the level of “hypocrisy” by the United States, Daniel Patrick Welch told Press TV on Wednesday.

Syria’s armed conflict with foreign-backed terrorist groups since 2011 was an American and Western project from the start to destroy Muslim countries, a writer and activist in Boston says.

Washington’s strong opposition to Russia’s military campaign against terrorist networks in Syria shows the level of “hypocrisy” by the United States, Daniel Patrick Welch told Press TV on Wednesday.

Russia has finally stood up to the West and its allies in the Middle East and confronting terrorist groups in the region, Welch said.

Welch also blasted US foreign policy expert Zbigniew Brzezinski for saying the United States should retaliate if Russia does not stop bombing its assets in Syria.

Brzezinski, the national security adviser for former President Jimmy Carter, advised President Barack Obama to attempt to disarm the Russians if they keep attacking the CIA-trained militants in Syria.

The Russian naval and air presences in Syria are vulnerable, isolated geographically from their homeland," Brzezinski wrote in an article published by the Financial Times on Sunday. "They could be 'disarmed' if they persist in provoking the US."

Moscow's apparent decision to strike CIA’s militants "at best" reflects "Russian military incompetence," and worst, "evidence of a dangerous desire to highlight American political impotence," wrote Brzezinski.

Russia started its air campaign in Syria last week to target terrorist groups fighting the Syrian government.

Russian warships also began to launch missiles into Syria from the Caspian Sea on Wednesday.

The missiles mark a significant escalation of Russian involvement in the region and a growing crisis for US foreign policy in Syria.

US officials have said Russia’s moves in Syria poses a direct challenge to the Obama administration’s foreign policy on the Middle East.
