Press TV has conducted an interview with Rodney Martin, a former US Congressional staffer from Los Angeles, to ask for his insight on the stance of Russia and the West in dealing with terrorism in the Middle East.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: It looks like worries, concerns and all these fears expressed by the US and the Western world... and now that NATO has been summoned... they’re all increasing over Russia’s airstrikes on Syria, which are targeting ISIS. Is it a conflict of interests here or are we all fighting this terrorist group, which is causing fear and war all across the globe?

Martin: Well, it sounds like NATO is a little worried about Russia destroying all that expensive military equipment that the United States has been airdropping to ISIL for the last year.

ISIL has been driving around in a billion dollars of the United States’ Humvees and that’s kind of interesting. They’re using a lot of high-tech equipment that has been reportedly airdropped by the United States.

Now, the United States has said it’s been accidently airdropped to ISIL when they were supposed to be airdropped to the ‘moderate’ Syrian rebels, which don’t exist. And for Turkey to complain about very nonchalant violation of airspace on the part of Russia, who is engaging in a real campaign against terrorism, when Turkey has for years violated the territorial integrity of Kurdistan in Iraq and has violated the territorial integrity of Syria and entered Syrian territory without the permission of the Syrian government and – I go back further – has waged war against the Kurds and entered Kurdish territory without consulting Iraq. I mean this goes beyond hypocrisy. This is just absolutely incredible and exposes the West for what it is. NATO is a fraud. It’s basically a bully organization to go around and promulgate Western hegemony around the world.

Press TV: Great point that you brought out there. You talked about ‘moderate’ Syrian rebels. Okay. Can you please define for us ‘terrorist’ now? Because it appears that the US government is fighting ‘bad’ terrorists on one hand and then it’s training and funding terrorists which are ‘good’ on the other.

Martin: Well, let’s understand that the United States has basically puppet strings on both sides. The so-called moderates, which nobody can find... and then they created ISIL as well. Now, John McCain, on memorial day 2011, wasn’t at home honoring US servicemen, he was hanging out with ISIS what was called ISIS at the time; they call themselves ISIL or Daesh now or whatever they want to call themselves.

And there’s no such thing as a moderate terrorist. A terrorist is a terrorist. And we’ve seen some of the most horrendous genocide and ethnic cleansing as a result of this.

The United States and the Western campaign of destabilizing Middle East governments from Libya to Iraq and then they were targeting Syria and all of this was part of this ‘project for a new American century,’ which is ultimate ambition, West would engage in a war with Iran, and all that fell flat, because the American public lost their stomach for any more wars.

So, they decided to create these boogeyman in the form of ISIL and then they would prop up the so-called moderates and they would have all of this terrorism when in fact the biggest terrorists on the world stage is the United States. If they are not engaging in full-blown terrorism, they are engaging in economic terrorism and if all that fails, they unleash their conventional military forces.
