US corporate media appendage of ruling class: Analyst

“One of the ways that the ruling establishment in the United States controls information is through its corporate control of major media outlets,” Draitser said.

Americans are turning away from the corporate mainstream media because it has proven to be an “appendage” of the ruling class, says an analyst from New York.

“Over the course of the last few decades, especially the last 15 years or so, the corporate media has shown itself to be little more than an appendage of the political establishment and the ruling class in the United States,” Eric Draitser said in an interview on Sunday.

He made the remarks when asked about a new survey that shows the majority of Americans have little or no trust in the mass media to report the news fully, accurately and fairly.

Four in 10 Americans surveyed by Gallup said they have “a great deal” or “a fair amount” of trust and confidence in the mass media and the rest said their trust ranges from “not very much” to “none at all.”

Only 7 percent of respondents said they have a “great deal” of trust and confidence in the media.

Draitser said misinformation and propaganda surrounding “key events” of recent years have eroded whatever “semblance of truth or whatever faith people had in the media.”

The analyst pointed to the “great lie” about the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, which made the American people rally behind the US invasion of that country in 2003.

“That has, of course, since been shown to be absolutely untrue,” he added. “And the media unquestioningly reported it as fact back in 2003 and really making the case for war on behalf of the White House.”

“Since then many people have begun to question the narratives of the mainstream media,” Draitser noted.

He further said that the public has come to realize that “one of the ways that the ruling establishment in the United States controls information is through its corporate control of major media outlets.”

However, “the more people realize that, the more they are turning to alternative news sources,” the analyst added.
