Signs UK preparing to strike ISIL in Syria

Indications are growing that Britain may be preparing for major military operations mainly involving air strikes against ISIL terrorists in Syria.

Indications are growing that Britain may be preparing for major military operations mainly involving air strikes against ISIL terrorists in Syria.

British Prime Minister David Cameron has been quoted by the media as saying that the country will get 20 more drones as Britain tries to help quell the growth of the ISIL in Syria and Iraq.

Cameron also said he would "beef up" Britain's elite Special Air Service regiment (SAS) as part of the battle with the ISIL terrorists in Syria, the media have reported.

He has also emphasized that British nationals who have joined ISIL in Syria will face possible drone attacks as a last resort. Two Britons have already been killed by Royal Air Force drones.

Cameron elsewhere said that obtaining 20 new Predator drones would more than double Britain’s fleet. They can be used for both surveillance and to attack people or vehicles on the ground.

This followed earlier comments by the British premier that he would push ahead with plans for a vote in the British parliament to approve military action against the ISIL terrorists in Syria

Cameron had been quoted by the media as saying that he saw a strong case for extending British air strikes to Syria from Iraq.

He lost a parliamentary vote on the use of force in Syria in 2013. Consequently, the British bombing campaign so far has only targeted the ISIL in neighboring Iraq.

Reza Nadim, a London-based political analyst, has told Press TV that chances for Cameron’s plan to get the Parliament’s approval for a potential plan to launch air strikes in Syria will fail.

Nadim says key political camps including the SNP and the Labour Party are currently against any British military involvement in Syria and still favor a diplomatic solution to the crisis in the country.

He further said Cameron appears to have been provoked to propose military action in Syria as a result of the major military involvement of Russia in the country.

“Many of the critical voices are saying that anything we do [with regards to Syria] will destabilize the region more,” Nadim has told Press TV’s UK Desk in an exclusive interview.
