Press TV has conducted an interview with Richard Becker, a member of the ANSWER Coalition in San Francisco, to discuss Russia’s ongoing airstrikes against the Takfiri Daesh terrorists in Syria.

What follows is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: Well your take on this. It appears now that Russia has gotten involved that all of a sudden the attacks are very, very accurate on Daesh, on the terrorist groups and that they are under pressure. Is there a difference between the attacks that Russia actually is conducting when compared to the US and those with the US?

Becker: Well it certainly appears so. I mean the entry of Russia into the war in Syria in the way that it has, has really dramatically changed the situation in a way that I think it has shocked Washington and its allies. Of course it is the height of hypocrisy here from Washington, the criticism of Russia’s involvement given the fact that it is the actions of Washington over the last decades that opened the way for the creation of Daesh, of the Islamic State, opened the way for the creation of al-Qaeda and now the United States says it is concerned about this and it is waging what it appears to be a very ineffectual campaign against them and yet criticizes Russia for its actions.

Press TV: What do you attribute that to criticizing Russia when Russia’s attacks have seem to be extremely accurate and it appears that the terrorists are hurting? So what does that mean when the US actually condemns Russia for the type of attacks that it is initiating or dealing with but at the same time continue to attack them themselves, however not with very much accuracy but that is okay?

Becker: Well I think that this highlights some of the many, many contradictions that are involved in the US position and what the US is doing in the region. Of course what the United States wants is the domination of the region but because of its own arrogance, going into Iraq in 2003 and destroying the state, destroying the government, doing the same thing to Libya in 2011, intervening in Syria and opening the way, this is what created the conditions for the development of ISIS and that now threatens US interest in the region but also we can see that the army that was built under occupation in Iraq is also ineffectual.

So really what the United States actions have done starting out with this towering arrogance of the neo-cons has led to a serious diminishing of the US position in the region but they do not want anyone else to have influence, they do not want anyone else to be strong in the region and so are thus attacking Russia’s support for the Bahsar al-Assad government which is the main force in Syria resisting ISIS.
