1. Over a week has passed since a deadly stampede in Saudi Arabia’s Mina. Iran, which lost hundreds of its nationals in the tragedy, is holding nationwide mourning ceremonies for the victims with coffins arriving home for funeral. The bodies of more than 100 victims arrived in Iran on Saturday.

2. Iran has once again called for an inquiry into the September 24 Hajj stampede in Saudi Arabia. Iran’s Foreign Ministry says a fact-finding commission representing Muslim nations must be formed to probe the causes of the tragedy. It also urged Saudi officials to step up cooperation to indentify and repatriate the bodies.

3. A Palestinian man has been shot dead by Israeli soldiers in Jerusalem al-Quds for allegedly stabbing an Israeli teen. This came hours after another Palestinian teenager was killed by Israeli forces in the area. He had injured several Israeli settlers. Two of them died of their wounds shortly afterward.

4. The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has condemned an airstrike on a hospital in Afghanistan that led to the deaths of nearly 20 staff and patients. Ban said the probe should be impartial to ensure accountability. The US military says the airstrike in the city of Kunduz targeted Taliban militants.

5. The Iraqi prime minister says he has the government’s approval to welcome Russia’s air campaign against Daesh terrorists in Iraq. Haider al-Abadi added that Iraqis will try to coordinate sorties by Russian and US aircraft in case Moscow agrees to launch its operations.

6. At least two dozen people have been killed in two ISIL bomb blasts in the Iraqi capital Baghdad. The explosions happened at a checkpoint in a crowded Shia neighborhood. The United Nations says a total of 717 people have been killed in violence in Iraq in last month alone.

7. The death toll from the mudslide outside Guatemala City has risen to 73 as rescue workers recover more bodies from the rubble. Another 350 people are still missing. Nearly 125 homes were destroyed in the disaster. The incident happened when the rain-soaked side of a hill collapsed.

8. France has stepped up security at the Channel Tunnel entrance in the border region of Calais. A spokesman with Eurotunnel said a group of more than a hundred migrants stormed into the tunnel shortly after midnight on Saturday. The refugees were trying to make it to Britain through the tunnel.
