Press TV has conducted an interview with Paul Larudee, a member of the Free Palestine Movement in Berkeley, to discuss the recent clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinians in the occupied West Bank following the funeral of a young woman shot dead by the Tel Aviv regime troops.

What follows is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: Considering all the recent developments taking place in the Palestinian territories, all the clashes and in particular today’s clashes at the funeral of this woman, just how close are we to witnessing a third Intifada as President Mahmoud Abbas has warned of?

Larudee: Possibly not close enough. Certainly incidents like these can trigger such a thing. The question is what measures will the Palestinians take even if there is a third Intifada, what strategies will they use in order to make it effective and today Palestinians have fewer resources to fight the Israeli oppressor. I happen to think that they have enough sources if they are willing to make enough sacrifices to do it but that always have been the case.

Press TV: But would an armed struggle be enough against Israel which is equipped to the teeth?

Larudee: It does not have to be strictly an armed struggle. I would think that part of it would be an armed struggle but non-cooperation by tens or hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and refusal to obey Israeli laws and requirements would go a very long way. I think there is a road for massive civil disobedience and also a road for armed resistance but I do not think either one alone will do it.

Press TV: Why is it that the West does not react to Israel's behavior and constant provocations?

Larudee: Well the West is complicit in all of this. They think, the United States in particular seems to think of Palestinians in the same way that it thought of American Indians as something to be gotten rid of and certainly the Israelis think that way and they are doing everything possible to make that happen.
