Iran beaten by Poland in FIVB U21 world championship

Young Iranian volleyball players have suffered a bitter loss at the classification round for the 9th to 12th place at the 2015 FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship in Mexico, losing to the Polish side.

The Iranian side lost 1-3 (25-21, 21-21, 22-25 and 19-25) to the Poles in a match staged at the Sports City State Auditorium in the northwestern Mexican city of Mexicali on Saturday.

The Iranians opened the match in a convincing fashion, and racked up points to surge ahead. The Polish volleyball players then sought to span the gap, but eventually dropped 25-21 to the Iranian outfit at the end of the first set.

In the second set, the Poles rebounded and brought the game under control to register a 25-21 victory.

The Polish volleyball players maintained the lead in the third set, and rolled to a 25-22 win at last.

Poland’s squad continued to chip away points in the final set. Young Iranian sportsmen tried to erase the deficit but ultimately fell short, and polish athletes went away with a 25-19 victory.

Poland’s 20-year-old Aleksander Sliwka was named the top scorer of the match with 32 points. Sahand Allah-Verdian was Iran’s top scorer with 14.

Iran has been scheduled to play against the United States on Monday to claim the 11th place.

The 2015 FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship opened in the Mexican cities of Tijuana and Mexicali on September 11, and will finish on September 20.
