London says it will pay Iran the country’s share of revenues form a joint gas field after sanctions on the Islamic Republic are lifted.

The comment was made by Iranian Deputy Oil Minister for International and Commercial Affairs Amir Hossein Zamaninia in Tehran on Saturday following a meeting with British chargé d'affaires to Iran Ajay Sharma.

The offshore Rhum Gas Field is located 240 miles (390 km) northeast of the Scottish city of Aberdeen in the North Sea. It is being developed under a joint venture by Iran and Britain. The contract to explore the gas field was inked in 1973.

The top Iranian official also noted that a British economic delegation is due in Iran on October 2.

Zamaninia said his talks with the UK diplomat revolved around extraction of oil from old fields, development of joint reservoirs and enhanced oil recovery.

“In the meeting, discussions were held on priorities of cooperation between the two countries after sanctions are lifted,” said the Iranian official.

Foreign companies should have considerable cooperation with Iran’s private sector if they are willing to work with Iran, the deputy oil minister underlined.

“The Iranian private sector has changed a lot over the past 10 years; hence, any foreign firm which wants to set up business in Iran should pay attention to this issue,” he noted.
