Study: Children without access to garden more likely to become obese

We all know that outdoor space is known to be good for health. But now for the first time researchers have shown how damaging it is for children to be confined to flats or high-rises.

A British study suggests that children who grow up without access to a garden are 40 percent more likely to be obese by the age of seven. Researchers say the risk also exists for children from poor families and for those with highly-educated parents living in poor areas. Obese children are more likely to remain so as adults and childhood obesity is a risk factor for developing type II diabetes.
