Pakistan airstrikes kill 15 militants in North Waziristan
At least 15 militants have been killed in the Pakistani army airstrikes in the country's North Waziristan tribal region, the Pakistani military says.
The Pakistani Inter-Services Public Relations said, in a statement, on Sunday that the airstrikes took place in the Shawal region.
According to the statement, the airstrikes targeted seven hideouts in the region, where pro-Taliban militants are active.
The airstrikes come a day after 10 people lost their lives and nearly 60 others were wounded in a bombing attack near a crowded rickshaw stand in Pakistan’s eastern province of Punjab.
Last week, Islamabad said the Pakistani military had also killed three militants in North Waziristan.
Earlier this month, Pakistani fighter jets also targeted pro-Taliban militants in the restive northwestern tribal region near the border with Afghanistan, killing 15 militants and completely destroying two militants’ hideouts.
Pakistani armed forces have been targeting militants since Islamabad launched the massive Zarb-e-Azb operation against militants last June. According to the Pakistani military officials, at least 3,000 militants have so far been killed in the military offensive.
This is while Pakistan's army intelligence service (ISI) is known as a major supporter of the Taliban militant group in neighboring Afghanistan.
According to the Pakistani Interior Ministry, more than 60,000 people have also lost their lives by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping across the country in the past years.
