Iran exported 560mn liters of gasoline

Iran says it has exported 560 million liters of gasoline since March.

Iran says it has exported 560 million liters of gasoline since March – what could be a clear success mark for a country that has been under a multiple-year sanctions regime over purchases of the crucial fuel.

Managing Director of National Iranian Oil Production Distribution Company (NIOPDC) Nasser Sajjadi has told IRNA that the exported volume of gasoline has earned the country $250 million.

Sajjaid added that parts of exports went to Afghanistan and Pakistan via land while the rest was exported through sea.

“Iran had to import gasoline up to last year but a drop in consumption has enabled the country to save up enough gasoline for domestic demands,” he added.

“Besides, more people and industrial units are today using natural.”

Sajjadi further emphasized that a contract to export gasoline to Iraq has also been finalized.

Iran’s consumption of gasoline stands at an average of 72 million liters per day. The figure shows a minor increase of 3 percent compared to the same period last year.

Officials say Iran would need no more gasoline imports next year once a major refinery – Persian Gulf Star Refinery – becomes operational. The project – which is being built in the southern energy hub of Assalouyeh – is expected to produce 360,000 barrels per day of gas condensates on top of jet fuel and other products.
