America's response to 9/11 made world far worse place: Analyst

A man stands in the rubble after the collapse of the first World Trade Center Tower September 11, 2001, in New York.

The US establishment used the 9/11 terror attacks to criminalize dissent and advance the neoconservative war strategy around the world, instead of investigating what actually happened and considering what role its own security apparatus insiders and its allies may have played in  the tragedy, according to a political commentator in Indonesia.

International lawyer Barry Grossman, who is based on the Indonesian island of Bali, made the remarks during a telephone interview with Press TV on Friday, as the United States is commemorating the 14th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks that left almost 3,000 people dead in New York.

US officials assert that the terrorist attacks were carried out by al-Qaeda terrorists but many experts have raised questions about the official account, saying it was a false-flag operation and that Osama Bin Laden was just a bogeyman for the US military-industrial complex.

They believe that rogue elements within the US government orchestrated or at least encouraged the 9/11 attacks in order to accelerate the US war machine and advance the Zionist agenda.

“Whatever people may want to believe about 9/11, there has not been another single event since at least World War II which has provoked more fundamental change in the way we live around the world than that single tragic event which, by international and historical standards, was in reality not a particularly great catastrophe,” Grossman said.

“If ever there was a moment in which the entire world almost without exception empathized with the United States, it was in the immediate aftermath of 9/11,” he stated.

“But  instead of capitalizing on  that opportunity by  reaching out with goodwill and in the spirit of genuine fraternity to the people of all nations, the US establishment — pressed on by entrenched neocon elements who had anticipated such an event — opted instead to manipulate public sensibilities using  9/11 to cause division among nations, to criminalize political dissent, to instill fear, distrust and suspicion in the hears of everyone, and , more than anything else,  to encourage an unrestrained   bloodlust that has seen the US and its allies wage war on Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Syria, while targeting many  other nations for similar treatment in the future as America mobilizes all its resource to establish what it arrogantly refers to as a Pax Americana which of course is just another name for global US hegemony,” he added.

“Instead of avoiding the mistakes made in the aftermath of the John F. Kennedy’s assassination, the political establishment opted to cover up the incompetence of its own security apparatus while refusing to properly investigate both the events of that day and what many people see as clear indications of involvement in some aspects of what happened by its own allies and perhaps even by rogue elements in what President Eisenhower described as the military-industrial complex,” the analyst noted.

“Facing deep budget cuts in a world without the specter of communism, the US security apparatus wasted no time seeing a terrorist under every bed, where they used to see a red and, with the perpetual war on terror that was sprung on the public by deceit, the US war machine have never had it so good,” he pointed out.

“Meanwhile, it never occurred to the Americans who quickly found themselves  compelled  to prove their patriotism on daily basis by saluting all things American, to expect the security establishment to be held accountable for what, at the very least, was its sheer incompetence in the lead up to 9/11 and the lead up to war after that,” he stated.

“With the existential threat of terrorism was being spread like wildfire by the US establishment, what little commitment was left in America to the rule-of-law and genuine civil liberties was quickly eliminated by the triumph of policy over law, to the point that we now effectively have rule by policy formulated in corporate funded think tanks, sold to the public by politicians, and administered by bureaucrats,” Grossman observed.

“Meanwhile, with the world having been turned inside out ostensibly in response to the terrorist threat, more people die in the United States every year from injuries sustained by falling out of bed, than all American civilians killed by terrorist acts in the 14 years since 9/11. Unlike US terrorism in the Middle East, in Latin America, in Africa, and in Asia, terrorism is simply not a significant problem for Americans and the wider Atlantic World,” he underlined.

“As for what actually happened on 9/11, I don’t think that there is anyone alive today who knows the whole story,” the political commentator said.

“There was a time of course when many of us naively hope that the truth about 9/11 would come out. Clearly, that is never going to happen,” he stated.

“Indeed, it would by definition be contrary to US national security to permit any inconvenient truths to emerge from the myriad, often half-baked theories embraced by what has become known as the 9/11 Truth Movement,” he emphasized

“In hind sight, we would all have been far better off and far more credible if, instead of proposing our own explanations built on speculation, we had accepted that we cannot know what happened and simply worked to expose what was clearly an orchestrated cover-up carried out by the US establishment and peddled to the world as the 9/11 Commission report,” Grossman concluded.
