Activist humiliates Cheney, his men during anti-Iran speech

A protester with the anti-war group Code Pink temporarily interrupted former US Vice President Dick Cheney during an anti-Iran speech, drawing a tactless response from his audience.

The African American activist heckled Cheney while he was speaking against Iran’s nuclear agreement at a Tuesday event hosted by the conservative American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C.

The girl, identified as Michaela Anang, shouted in the middle of the speech, accusing Cheney of being a “war criminal.”

Cheney, described by Code Pink as a “chicken hawk,” was speaking against the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), reached between Iran and the P5+1 -- the US, Britain, Russia, China, France, and Germany -- in Vienna in mid-July

"Why should we be listening to him?" the protester asked the crowd.

She also held up a pink banner that read “Wrong on Iraq, wrong on Iran,” referring to claims by the administration of former President George W. Bush who invaded Iraq over weapons of mass destruction that were never found in the country.

As the protester was standing near Cheney, men ran towards her and started dragging her out.

One man, bolder than the rest of them, rushed towards the girl and tried to take her banner.

She treated the man with surprising ease and just held on to the banner. The man kept trying more and more but to no avail until she sent him to his seat and was accompanied out with the banner still in her hands.

Cheney "lied to American public about Iraq and justified torture," said Code Pink founder Medea Benjamin ahead of the event, in reference to Iraq War and the CIA’s torture program, thus seeking advice from him about the Iran accord is "mind boggling" for Washington policy makers.

During the speech, Cheney described the deal as “madness,” threatening Iran with “military action.”

"Iran must halt its enrichment and reprocessing activities. It must halt its ballistic missile activities. It must provide a full and complete accounting of all its past nuclear activities. It must allow complete anywhere, anytime access, including at military sites. There should be no sanctions relief until Iran has fulfilled these obligations. If Iran chooses not to do so, they must understand that the United States stands ready to take military action."

Code Pink describes itself as a “peace and social justice movement working to end US-funded wars and occupations, to challenge militarism globally, and to redirect our resources into health care, education, green jobs and other life-affirming activities."
