A judge in Britain has granted "conditional bail" to high-profile radical preacher Anjem Choudary who is accused of garnering support for Daesh terrorists.

48-year-old Choudary is to be released from custody after being granted bail. Choudary and his co-accused, Mohammed Rahman, have been held at high-security Belmarsh prison since August. During previous hearings as well as interviews with media, the duo had often indicated that they would plead not guilty.

In a ruling issued on Friday, Justice Sweeney said the decision to grant the accused bail was not an easy task but added that “the conditions of bail proposed will substantially reduce the risk of dissemination of those views".

“I am not persuaded in either case that there are substantial grounds for believing that either defendant will fail to surrender to custody”, the judge said.

Both Chaudary and Rahman are due to appear before a high court judge in January over allegations that they invited support for Daesh, a Takfiri terrorist group that has been waging war in Syria and Iraq.
