1. Libya’s warring factions are set to hold peace talks in Geneva to end more than a year of deadly rivalry in the crisis-hit country. The two-day talks, beginning on Thursday, are the latest in the long-running UN-brokered peace negotiations between the two sides.

2. Tunisian farmers take to the streets of the capital to express their anger over the rising costs of production. The protesters called on the government to support the vital sector, which employs hundreds of thousands of Tunisians.

3. Kenya has announced a major administrative and security reshuffle to counter the growing militancy in the country. Interior Minister Joseph N-kaissery says the changes will strengthen efforts to combat the threat of terrorism and the creeping rise of violent extremism.

4. The UN Children’s Fund warns that over 13-million children are being denied education by Middle East conflicts. UNICEF reported that 40 percent of children in six countries, including Syria, Yemen, Iraq, and Palestinian territories are not attending school and that their hopes would be dashed if they don’t return to classrooms.

5. Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations has dismissed reports that Moscow is joining the so-called US-led coalition against ISIL. Vitaly Churkin said the coalition is operating outside of the decisions of the UN Security Council. He also rejected a French proposal to limit the use of the veto at the council.

6. The British prime minister has rejected calls for his country to accept more refugees as Europe faces a sharp surge in asylum seeker entries. David Cameron says Britain has already taken in refugees from Syrian camps and that the answer is not taking in any more refugees.

7. Boko Haram kills over two dozen people in an attack in Nigeria’s northeast. The Takfiri terrorists attacked two villages in Borno state. The casualties include women and children. More than one-thousand people have been killed since March when President Muhammadu Buhari pledged to uproot the terrorist group.

8. China has held a major military parade to commemorate the defeat of Japan in World War Two. The parade featured a whole range of new military hardware, including the so-called carrier killer missiles that are said to be effective against US aircraft carriers in the Pacific.
