At least a student has been killed in a mortar attack launched by foreign-backed Takfiri militants against a university in Syria’s capital, Damascus.

A Syrian police source said that the female student lost her life on Tuesday after terrorists fired a mortar shell on the faculty of mechanical and electrical engineering at Damascus University, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported.

According to the police source, at least six other students also sustained injuries in the terrorist attack on the university, located in the industrial zone of the capital.

The terrorists also targeted two other neighborhoods in Damascus, injuring a number of civilians there.

Meanwhile, the Syrian security forces managed to discover two explosive-laden cars near the northwestern city of Latakia and defuse the bombs planted in the vehicles.

Cities and towns across Syria have been witnessing bomb attacks as well as mortar and rocket fires by Takfiri terrorists since a deadly foreign-backed conflict broke out in the Arab country more than four years ago.

On Monday, a girl was wounded when a rocket fired by Takfiri terrorists fell on her house in the al-Muhajirin neighborhood in the capital.

A baby girl was also killed on Sunday and four others were injured when militants’ mortar shells slammed into the Abu Rummaneh neighborhood west of Damascus.

The Syrian army has been carrying out military operations against the militants who hole up in the suburbs of the capital over the past months, killing a large number of militants.

The Syrian conflict has claimed more than 240,000 lives up until now, according to estimates.

More than 7.2 million Syrians have been internally displaced and more than four million others forced to flee to neighboring countries, including Jordan and Lebanon.
